Theme Week | North American July: Day 4 – with Liliuska

June 15, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Other

Hello Everyone! Liliuska here and I’m so happy to see you for Day 4 of our North American July. We are making cards using Canadian (Red and White) or American (Red, White and Navy) colours.

I picked red and white colours and made two shaker cards. I was making them at a Red&White crafty event, and couldn’t resist the colours surrounding me that day.

If you know me, you know I like making twin cards just changing them slightly. For my first card I chose a large sentiment and and filled the shaker with red sequins. I decided to use vellum for both shakers. I like the softness it adds to a card’s look.

For the second card I picked a smaller sentiment and made an oval window. Here I also used two colours of sequins: red and white. I needed some beautiful detail to catch the eye. And nothing could be more perfect than heat embossed flower image!

Theme Week | Masculine Cards: Day 4 – with Erica

June 8, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Birthday Cards, Cards, CAS, New Release, Other, Theme Week

Hi guys! Erica on the blog today. Here at Studio Katia we are doing something different and fun for the summer: theme weeks where we all have to make a card that suits that theme. This week’s theme is something I struggle with… Masculine cards. Oy, that’s my crafting Everest! Bling, flowers, pretty, cute? No problem whatsoever. Bring it on! Masculine cards on the other hand. Erm… no. Not good. No mojo, man. I had several hair-pulling moments before I came up with a half decent idea.

SUPPLIES:

Happy Clear Stamp Set
Foxes Clear Stamp Set
Brush Stroke Stripes Clear Stamp
Elongated Dotted Hexagons Creative Dies
Googly Eyes

I started out by stamping one of the foxes from the aptly named Foxes stamp set on Strathmore Bristol Vellum water colour paper and proceeded to colour him in using my Zig markers. When he was dry I cut him out using the coordinating die which will be available to purchase in July. My idea was to make him look like a dad reading a book to his kids so I wanted to add some googly eyes to make him a bit fun.

As I’m rubbish at masculine cards I wanted to keep the background simple and not overly fussy but how to avoid it being boring at the same time? Well, that was the million dollar question and I toyed with the idea of making a striped background using the new Brush Stroke Stripes stamps but instead went with cutting out some Elongated Dotted Hexagons in both a black linen textured card stock as well as foam to raise up the shapes from the card.

These shapes I arranged on the card in a “blocky” way and then I popped the fox at the bottom of the card, inside the biggest shape. Up until this point I felt it was going ok but here I faltered again… now the question was whats sentiment to use and where to put it??

In an attempt to make it more manly I stamped the big happy sentiment from one of the new stamp sets on a blue star patterned paper in a dark grey ink and then cut out out, leaving a wide boarder to make sure the stars showed still. I adhered this to the card over the shapes and then stamped ‘birthday’ in black ink just off to the side.

The card wasn’t looking very manly at all so I tried adding some dark grey enamel dots to the card but it didn’t really make it any more macho. Accepting defeat is never easy but at this point it was either adding sequins or calling it quits. I chose quit. Oh well, you win some, you loose some.

Trying to redeem myself a little bit I made a second card but kept it SUPER simple. Grey card base, that happy stamp set again and with the help of some VersaMark, grey and black ink and my MISTI I stamped it three times in gradient colours. I also added a few dots for interest and then stamped ‘Father’s Day’ in grey ink on a thin strip of white card stock which I adhered to the card using foam tape.

Well, that was my attempt at making masculine cards. Not my best work but perhaps not my worst either. That Father’s Day card I can send to my dad or father in law, neither one of them will appreciate the artistry nor the angst that went into making these cards, lol!

Even though I am not 100% percent happy with these cards I hope I have inspired you to try something out of your comfort zone, even if it doesn’t work out the way you had planned it’s good to challenge yourself every now and again.

Have a great June and happy crafting everyone!

Theme Week | Masculine Cards: Day 3 – with Liliuska

June 7, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Other, Theme Week

Hello Everyone!

Our Theme Weeks continues and I have a couple masculine Birthday cards to share with you. I like the challenge of making masculine cards and this time was no different. Very excited to share what I made and I hope you enjoy what you see as much as I enjoyed creating these.

I can’t get enough of Dotted Patterns Set – 1 and I find myself using these dies all the time. And they work great for any kind of card. Also, I like making cards in pairs with more or less variation.

I used masking to stamp Kobi with gifts and balloons on white paper for the first card and while I still had all the masks on I inked the whole background with Broken China Distress Oxide. After removing all masks I liked the look of the white bear against blue background I decided to leave him that way and only added few accents with silver gel pen and some glitter.

To make my card more interesting I stamped a frame using party hat image and coloured polka dots with white gel pen.

I stamped the sentiment and a ballon on the inside with the same ink I used for background.

SUPPLIES:

Dotted Patterns Set – 1 | Creative Dies

Kobi the Birthday Bear | Clear Stamp Set

For the second card I stamped Kobi with presents and balloons on dark kraft paper. This time I decided to colour all the images with Polychromos pencils. I also made a stamped frame with party hat image and coloured polka dots in light blue.

I decided my background for Kobi was too dark, so I inked it with Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide. Kobi looks a lot better on this lighter background.

I stamped a cake image and sentiment on a separate panel and adhered on the inside of the card.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope I was able to inspire you to make some fun masculine cards. 😉

Have a wonderful day!

Theme Week | Masculine Cards: Day 2 – with Kristina

June 6, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Other, Theme Week

Happy Tuesday everyone!

It’s day 2 of the theme week. Kristina here with a non traditional masculine card.

SUPPLIES:

Brush Stroke Stripes Clear Stamp Set
Happy Clear Stamp Set
Vintage Sheer Fusion
Clear Round Drops – Mix
Frosted Hearts

I’ve decided to create a gentle backdrop of a Brush Strokes Striped ombre. First I arranged all the stamps from the set on white paper (and penciled them on Misti). In turn, the ink applied to the stamps from light to dark, first mint colors, then pink. Ink mixed with each other and a smooth transition of color. Then I stamped sentiment Happy with VersaMark ink and made hot embossing with gold powder.
Trimmed the panel and using the foam tape adhered it to the cardbase. To finish the card I’ve added Vintage Sheer Fusion and Clear Round Drops – Mix and Frosted Hearts.

I used an non traditional color combination for the masculine card. I tried to make it subdued and not overwhelming.

Thank You all for stopping by!

Summer Fun Collaboration Blog Hop with Newton’s Nook Designs

June 2, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Other

Welcome to the Summer Fun Collaboration Blog hop with Newton’s Nook Designs and Studio Katia!
Both teams are celebrating the start of summer with fun and colorful cards using stamps from Newton’s Nook Designs and dies and embellishments from Studio Katia. There’s prizes too! Both companies have a prize to give away too so make sure you read all the way to the bottom of this post to see how to win!

Hello and Welcome to your last stop!
Erica here and for my card for this collaboration is quite simple as I wanted to keep the focus on the cute little critters from Newton’s Nook. I just adore that sweet little racoon holding a little heart, he’s so sweet! This set is called Sweetheart Tails and you can find it here.

I started out by cutting an A2 panel out of Copic friendly card stock, using the dotted rectangle die from the Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames creative die set. Then I stamped the little cuties with Memento Black Tuxedo ink using my Mini MISTI. These days I am unable to stamp anything at all without using my MISTI, it really has changed the way I craft and some people have said they balk at the price of one but I can not recommend it enough. It really is a complete game-changer!

Right, back to the card!

I coloured the images using my Copics and also added a few hearts between the cute little couple. I knew I wanted to use the sweet sentiments ‘You stole my heart’ and ‘You are foxy’, I thought I’d stamp them on the Stitched Duo Speech Bubble and place that above the couple, kinda like they are talking to each other. So corny I know, but I’m a real corny kind of gal, I can’t lie. Also, I didn’t want to make a card that was too flat so I also cut the speech bubble out of fun foam to pop it up and create dimension without making the card too fussy. Something I’m also guilty of doing from time to time…

I couldn’t resist adding a few little finishes to the card but I really, really, REALLY tried keeping is simple and not go overboard. A couple of Hearts embellishments and a little bit of glossy accents on the heart images were all the things I added. Anyone else surprised?? My husband actually said he likes this new minimalist things I’m trying, which is always inspiring! I mean, if a man (who hasn’t got much interest in anything creative) can appreciate it, it must be half ok, right?

Erica!

Katia here, I adore Newton so much! He’s such a cool cat!
For today’s card I had to create a shaker.

I’ve stamped newton on a watercolour paper and coloured it with Tombow markers.

To create a window I used the new creative dies, Dotted Ovals and Dotted Patterns Set 1. I used a handmade stencil to create the clouds and filled shaker with Sparkling Crystals, Light Blue Metallic Fusion, Crystal Clear Fusion, Crystal Clear Flowers and Iridescent Flowers Confetti.

Thank You, I hope you’ve enjoyed the hop! Have a happy weekend!

Katia

May Release Preview – Day 4 with Erica

May 25, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Announcements, Birthday Cards, Blog Spotting, Cards, New Release, News, Other, Shaker Cards, Sneak Peek

Hello and welcome to our May Release week Preview. This release includes 5 new clear stamp sets, 2 new stand along die sets and introducing new coordinating die sets. Yay!

Erica here! It’s Day 4 of the Studio Katia preview week! Today I’m going to show you the Brush Stroke Stripes  stamp set, which is part of the new release and will be available to purchase in just a few days, May 27th! Whoop whoop!

I decided to make patterned paper for backgrounds for my cards for this post. The MISTI as well as the MISTI Creative Corners came in super helpful to line up the stamps and make sure the distances between the lines were the same. I didn’t really have a plan per say about anything but just started stamping and trying colour combinations.  Ombre is a favourite of mine and I ended up doing one in yellow going to orange and pinks, as well as one yellow to orange and back to yellow. Once I was on a roll, I also made a pink-purple-ish patterned panel as well as a yellow and green tartan look. AND a rainbow one. I know, I know.. mad as a hatter, me!

For my first card I cut a piece out from one of the yellow panels I made, out using the rectangle die from the Dotted Patterns Set1 and the colours made me feel very happy and joyful so I decided to stamp the word ‘Happy’ from the Happy stamp set right across the panel. I used black ink and heat embossed it in clear embossing powder to make it pop. No card is complete without sequins so I added a sprinkling of them on both sides of the Happy as well as add a few crystals too. Because #bling, right??

Moving on to the pink/purple panel, I grabbed the whole set of Dotted Ovals and die cut them just off the side of it so they weren’t right in the centre. As a nice contrast, I used a lovely textured purple card stock which shows through as I removed the biggest of the circles. At this point I decided to make shaker card so I also cut the three inner rings out in double sided sticky foam (I’m addicted to this stuff!) and discarded the middle one as that’s where I thought I’d put the sequins. The smallest piece got the stripy part glued on and then to make sure all the bits were lined up I used the the ovals to place them in the right spot. I glued down the middle oval and then added a mix of sequins using a sprinkling each of Luminous Lavender, Siberian Iris and also some Icy Clear Seed Beads around it before glueing some acetate to the third biggest oval and sticking that down on the card. On a small banner I stamped ‘Happy Birthday’ using the single word stamps from the Happy set.

For my third card, I used the pink-to-yellow-ombre panel and started by cutting out an A2 dotted panel by using the Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames. Then I stamped lots of paint brushes using a stamp set from WPlus 9 which I coloured in using Copic markers (for the handles) and then I matched the paint brushes up to the colour stripes and used the ink pads to get the colour exact. I glued them down and added glossy accents to the brush part to make them look wet. For the sentiment I used one from the stamp set, ‘You Color My World’, which I also coloured in used Copics. Because I felt it needed a little something, I added some white enamel accents before adding the sentiment piece to the card using foam tape.

I had some left of the panel so I cut the remainder of the strip into a straight piece and then rounded off the top with one of the ‘label shapers’ (for the lack of a better word) from the Dotted Patterns Set1 and also punched a hole with the small circle die from the same set. Fuchsia coloured ribbon and gold thread made a big hassle at the top and that was it!

One last little thing I made was a gift tag out of the yellow/green ‘tartan’ look patterned paper I made. This one was super simple (once the stamping was done) as it was a quick die cut job and add a ribbon (both a die cut one and an actual one) and done!

Ok, that’s it from me for today but don’t forget to check in tomorrow for more release teasers and then yet again on the 27th as we are having a a HUUUUUGE release day blog hop with lots of prizes and fabulous projects!

Happy crafting from Erica

May Release Preview – Day 2 with Liliuska

May 23, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Cards, New Release, News, Other, Sneak Peek

Hello and welcome to our May Release week Preview. This release includes 5 new clear stamp sets, 2 new stand along die sets and introducing new coordinating die sets. Yay!

I am very excited to join May Release Previews this week!

I am showcasing Happy Stamp Set today.

I love how versatile is this set. The handwritten word HAPPY looks beautiful on its own, you don’t even need to add anything, except for some fun background maybe. Which is what I did playing with this set.

First I made a background using alcohol markers. I scribbled on Yupo paper and added some alcohol. Next I put another panel of Yupo to the first one and got two beautiful blue background. I die cut a little smaller panel than my card base, stamped Sending Happy Thoughts and added few sequins. Stamping on Yupo is not an easy task, but I am happy with the result I got.

Next I made a background on photo paper using dry watercolour paints and water. Once it was dry I stamped Don’t Worry Be Happy, die cut it to a bit smaller size and added couple sequins.

Stamping on photo paper is also tricky, but it worked perfectly!

Next I decided to stamp word Happy using few different tones of the same colour and inked my card base with the same inks to match the stamped word. A frame from Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames | Creative Dies made my card look even more elegant. To make the word Happy look even more fun I added some glitter embossing powder.

Next I made a shaker card using heavy weight vellum on which embossed Happy Birthday with gold embossing powder. I added lots of tiny 18K Gold Stars Confetti to my shaker and adhered few inside the golden frame. Since adhering vellum to a card base is always tricky I only added adhesive behind the frame, so nothing is visible.

Last two cards I made using two distress watercolour panels and some Distress Inks. I simply embossed sentiment on the panels and added a little wash of colour on top. I die cut both panels using Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames | Creative Dies. Embossed flowers are also from the Happy Stamp Set. How cute are they!

This set looks perfect on every background! I enjoyed playing with it and am sure you will as well. You can make so many different greetings cards with it.

Have a wonderful day and come back tomorrow for more previews!

Liliuska

I hope you have enjoyed this look at Happy Clear Stamp set. Tomorrow we have another new set to show you! And now, it’s GIVEAWAY time! Leave a comment bellow to win this set by May 26th, and we will randomly pick one winner for this set!

Hi My Fine Feathered Friend with Laurie

May 8, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Hello Cards, Other

Hello and Happy Monday!!  Laurie here to share a fun little card made using some stamps and dies that were released awhile ago!!
I went through my stash of SK goodies and came across the Pink Winter stamp set.  This set is technically a Winter/Christmas themed set but the builder sentiments and flamingo image can be used year round!! The dies I chose to use were the Elongated Dotted Hexagons.  These are such a cool shape and the dual dotted detail is awesome!
I die cut the largest hexagon out of some Lawn Fawn patterned paper…I love their paper pads, as they give so much inspiration for colour!! I also cut this same die out of some pink fun foam to give the entire piece dimension.   I die cut the medium hexagon out of white cardstock to layer on top.  Before adhering my flamingo to that hexagon, I lightly blended some Scattered Straw Distress Ink to bring in some yellow from the patterned paper.  I then adhered the flamingo using foam adhesive.
SUPPLIES:
Pink Winter Clear Stamp Set
Duo Talk Clear Stamp Set
Darling Ribbon and Dotted Frames Creative Die Set
Elongated Dotted Hexagons
For the sentiment, I used words from the Pink Winter stamp set to create “my fine feathered friend” and stamped those onto the banner die from the Darling Ribbon and Dotted Frames Creative Die Set. For the “hi” part of the sentiment, I used the Duo Talk stamp set.  I simply stamped the “hi” in a pink ink and fussy cut it out.
Before adhering all the pieces, I wanted to jazz up the cardbase.  I used the Falling Snow Stencil from Simon Says Stamp and a light grey ink.  I also used the cute little heart image that is part of the Duo Talk stamp set in the same pink ink I used for the word “hi”.
I trimmed down my cardbase by 1/2″ to make a smaller card.  The fact that it is the exact same width as the banner die is a complete fluke 🙂  I also foam mounted the “hi” onto the banner to give a litter more dimension.
To finish off, I added Glossy Accents to the flamingo’s beak and eye and also the HI, and some glitter pen to the dots on the background.
I think this card is pretty cute!  I hope you enjoyed!
Until next time….
Laurie

Miss You with Liliuska

May 5, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Floral Cards, Other

Hello everyone!

Liliuska here and I’d like to share with you a one layer card I made using Mandala Stamp. Ever since I received this stamp I wanted to make a card with wobbler. Those are always so much fun!

Since this is a one layer card I decided to add some texture to the card base by scoring lines on it. Next I stamped Mandala in the middle and covered it with a mask. I stamped the image in the top left and bottom right corner and spritzed the card with shimmer spray. Since I used Oxide Inks two corner mandalas look as if they were heat embossed and middle mandala looks nicely crisp.

SUPPLIES:

Mandala Flower | Clear Stamp Set

And the Fox Says | Clear Stamp Set

Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames | Creative Dies

Clear Round Drops – Mix

Crystal Clear Fusion

I stamped mandala on a separate piece of paper, coloured part of it with Polychromos pencils and cut out that part with scissors. I adhered it to the card base on a wobbler. To add sentiments I die cut a black strip using long frame die from Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames Creative Dies and stamped two sentiments. I cut the strip in half and adhered it on both sides of the wobbler. Last touch – crystal clear sequins with clear drops in the middle.

I hope you enjoyed what I prepared for you today. Have a wonderful and inspiring day!
