Studio Katia and A Blog Named Hero Collaboration card with Erica

March 19, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Floral Cards, New Release, Other

Hello,

Erica on the blog today with a very blingy card for the A Blog Named Hero collaboration. I was so excited when I found out about this collaboration and the theme, gosh, I had so many ideas right off the bat! This card is the fruition of one of my first ideas and I’m so happy with how it came out! Let’s get right to it, shall we?

I adore the sentiment ‘Throw kindness around like confetti’ from the Hero Arts Acts Of Kindness set and decided to make that the centre of my card. Around the sentiment, which I stamped in black ink and added clear heat embossing powder over, I created a big flowery wreath with the gorgeous flowers from the Together We Bloom set. I cut out several masks to get a “bushy” look with all the flowers and leaves overlapping. If you only buy one set from the new release, this should be the one. I think I must have used it for about 7 out of the 10-ish projects I have created since it’s release. It’s got everything: big blooms, medium and small ones and lots of leaves. I love this set!

As I had already decided to use Copics, I stamped up the images on Simon Says Stamp White 120lb card stock which is a thick and smooth card stock. The Copics go on like butter on hot toast.

Grabbing my hex chart, available from Sandy Allnock, and my pinks Copics I got to work. Some of the flowers are a little better than the others but I wanted them all to have slightly different shades of pink on them. I used the flicking technique for all of the flowers, this is my favorite way of colouring flowers. A lot of people prefer blending until the colours are super smooth and blended to perfection but I like this look.  Each to their own, right? It would be boring if we all coloured exactly the same.

For the leaves I went a little bit more blended, but not much. In all the gaps around the flowers and leaves, I used a very light green (G11 I think it was) just to give a little colour and to bring the ‘wreath’ together. This light green I also extended a bit in the middle, towards the sentiment.

Once I was happy with all the colouring, it was time to add some bling! The theme for this collaboration is bling after all so what better excuse to go crazy?? Out came all sorts of fun sequins, crystals and Nuvo drops! I settled for different sized green-ish coloured sequins from the Crystal Rainbow Fusion (this is my FAVOURITE sequin fusion ever!) as well as Sparkling Crystals and transparent green Nuvo Drops. The sequins I added to leaves and green areas, the sparkling crystals got sprinkled in the centre to frame the sentiment and the Nuvo Drops got dotted on the leaves to make it look like dew drops. I really like doing this for a subtle little touch. While I was on a roll with all this I also added some Glossy Accent drops all over the sentiment to make it look like rain drops falling from the sky.

I set the panel aside to dry as I didn’t want to mess up any of my dots and drops. While this whole shebang was drying, I cut out a card base in a fushia coloured card stock, about 2mm bigger than the actual panel. Once glued on to the base, a tiny little bit peeks out and frames the whole thing beautifully.

With that, it’s a wrap! Everything I have used for this card that’s available at Studio Katia I have linked in the post so if you want something, just click on the link and it will take you right to it! If something is out of stock, check back regularly as you are going to want to grab it as soon as you can, trust me!

That’s it from me this time, have a great day and happy crafting!

FEBRUARY RELEASE DESIGN TEAM BLOG HOP + GIVEAWAY!

February 27, 2017 / CATEGORIES - New Release, News, Other

Hello dear crafty friends!

Welcome to the Studio Katia Design Team Blog Hop!

Our newest release has arrived and available for purchase in the store!
For this hop Erica has made this Hello Friend card featuring Thank You So Much, Hello Alice and Together we Bloom from the new release.

As some of you know *cough, cough* I’m completely crazy about flower stamps! It was a no-brainer, I had to start with the big one from the Thank You So Much set. It is a stunning flower, it really is. I tend to do a lot of pink flowers but wanted something bright and cheery for this card so I decided on yellow.

To begin with I cut out an A2 sized piece of water colour card stock using the dotted rectangle die from the Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frame set. I love water colouring and after heatembossing the flower as well as some leaves from the Together We Bloom set, I used the Gansai Tambi 36 pack to colour it all in.

Naturally, I couldn’t leave it just like that and had to add some sequins. Because…. well, who needs a reason for sequins? The ones I went for are some of my favourites: Crystal Clear Fushion. I’m going to confess something here. I never used to be a fan of mixes and fushions, it wreaked havoc with my inner neat freak/slight case of OCD and as silly as it sounds, I didn’t want to deal with them. I know, I know.. bonkers. Anyway, I got over my little issue and now I LOVE them! This is one I make sure I’m always stocked up on. As per usual, I adhered them with glossy accents.

After that, it was a simple case of glueing the panel to a card base and ta-da! Done! Apart from letting the water colour layers dry in between, this is quite a quick and simple card. You don’t have to add as many details as I did if you are in a hurry, loose water colouring looks lovely too and that’s so fun to do. No two cards will look the same so why not stamp up a couple, or five, panels while you are at it? Change the sentiment for an elegant birthday card.

Welcome to the Family with Liliuska

February 18, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Other, Shaker Cards

Hello everyone!
This is my first post for Studio Katia and I am very excited to join the Team and share inspiration with you all.
I made a set to welcome a newborn baby using Studio Katia Stamps and Dies and want to share it with you. I took pictures as I was making it and hope you’ll enjoy what you see and get inspired, too. 🙂

SUPPLIES:

Foxes Clear Stamp Set

And the Fox Says… Clear Stamp Set

Dotted Shaker Tag Creative Die

Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames Creative Die

First I die cut a tag shape using Dotted Shaker Tag Die (Dotted Shaker Tag). I die cut two shapes with a window to stick an acetate for the shaker between two die cuts. I stamped multiple hearts from the Foxes Clear Stamp Set and coloured them using Chameleon Pens. Now I know you’ll think I’m crazy, but I decided to cut out all those tiny hearts and use them in the shaker. On the picture here you can also see some of the ideas I had, and ended up doing something different. I didn’t use the beads at the end, and stamped my sentiment on the tag itself.

I stamped a fox image on the solid tag shape and coloured it with Polychromos Pencils. Next I die cut a frame (I used Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames) out of white woodgrain paper and adhered the shaker on top of it. I also stamped a sentiment from the And the Fox Says | Clear Stamp Set.

My card base looked a little boring, so I decided to stamp solid fox images. I used two generation stamping here, which means I stamped the same image twice before reinking it.

Since my plan was to make a matching gift bag as well, I stamped the same solid fox image and three different hearts all over my diy paper bag using three different ink colours.

All is left – add some embellishments to the card and fold and glue together the gift bag, as well as add some ribbon for the handles.

Here are some close ups.

Hope you enjoyed the project I made to share with you today and got some ideas on how to use your Studio Katia stamp and dies.

Thank you for stopping by!
Enjoy your weekend!

Liliuska

Happy Birthday with Laurie!

February 6, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Birthday Cards, Cards, CAS, Other

Happy Monday!!  How about we start the week off with a birthday card??!  One of my co-workers is having a birthday this week so I decided to make a her a card!!

SUPPLIES:

Birthday Lions Clear Stamp Set

Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames Dies

Clear Round Drops 4mm and 5mm

I chose the Birthday Lions stamp set for my card today.  And I decided to use some of the smaller images to create a background panel.  I used some Bristol paper because my medium of choice today was my Zig Clean Colour Brush markers!!  I haven’t used these in awhile and forgot how fun they were!!

I stamped the banner, one of the party hats and one of the hearts from the set with Versamark ink and used my favourite embossing powder, Silver Pearl from Ranger!!  There was no rhyme or reason to my stamping.  I started with the largest image then filled in any spaces with the smaller.

I chose a few happy colors from my 48 marker set and coloured in my images by swiping some colour on the image then blending out with a little water.

I cut the panel down using the largest die from the Darling Ribbon and Dotted Frames dies.  The sentiment die is also from that set.  I LOVE that dotted detail!!
I may be behind the times here but I wanted to add a “nest” of silver thread behind the sentiment. I simply balled it up and used the foam adhesive from the sentiment strip to adhere it down.  To finish this card off, I added some Clear Round Droplets in 4mm and 5mm sizes.
Thank you for joining me today! Wishing you a fabulous week!!

Masculine Thank You cards by Erica

January 13, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Cards, CAS, Other, Thank You Cards

Hello!

Erica on the blog today with a couple of really quick ‘thank you’ cards in masculine colours. It’s not just women who appreciate a thank you note after all.

After picking out a navy and textured metallic blue card stock I started by cutting out two panels using the A2 die from Darling Ribbon & Dotted Frames. The navy card stock I embossed with a quilt look embossing folder to give it some texture. The next step was to cut out a hole in each panel where the sentiment was going to peek out from. I used the wavy circle from Dotted Balloons creative cut set. Setting the two panels aside, I started on the background panels. For the navy blue card I decided on a mint green card stock for a nice contrast and for the metallic blue I used the same navy blue as the other card. The navy blue background I also embossed with the same quilt embossing folder to add some more texture to the card.

Using the Mini MISTI I placed both the background panel and the top panel in before placing my sentiment stamp. Doing things this way is a great way to make sure your sentiment ends up right where you want it and I must confess I am absolutely addicted to using the MISTI for even the simplest stamping. Just in case the first stamping isn’t as clear or crisp as I would like it.

Sprinkling the background panel generously with an anti-static tool is a must when using embossing powder and I did just that before stamping the sentiment from the ‘Mini Thank You’ set in VersaMark ink. I thought about using silver embossing powered but went with white instead in the end.

One of the cards, the navy one, I put together using a 1mm thick foam tape just to raise it a little bit and the metallic blue is as flat as possible. After gluing them onto card bases, I decided that they needed a little bit of bling, despite being masculine cards. I picked out a few 4 and 6mm sequins from the Jet Black sequin fusion pack, black isn’t too frilly and “blingy” is it?? The black sequins went on the navy blue card. Then I started thinking (oh boy, right…?) and thought it needed a white one or two too on the mint green part, just to frame the sentiment a little. I picked out just one each of 4 and 6mm Iridescent Magnolia and added them to the card. Moving on to the metallic blue card, I thought the black sequins would just blend in too much so I went with the Iridescent Magnolia sequins again but just on the navy blue part.

And that, my friends, is it! Quick and easy thank you cards made. If you like the design but want to give it to a girl friend, just use whatever colours you/the recipient like and mix’n’match sequins to fit the colour scheme you pick.

Happy crafting from Erica!

“Wish You Were Here” Card by Erica

January 3, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Other

Hello and Happy New Year!

Erica here today and I know it’s not very wise to wish your life away but I couldn’t wait to be done with 2016, it has without a doubt been the worst year of my life due to tragic personal losses. And don’t get me started on what is going on all over the planet… it seems the world has gone mad! Just to top it off, a friend of mine has just broken up with the love of her life and because she lives far away, I can’t be there in person for her. Long-distance friendships suck…. Well, not the friendship itself, just being so far away from someone important to you. As I can’t pack up and go to her right away, I decided to make a cute card to send her until I can go visit her.

There are some really sweet sentiments in the And The Fox Said set and it just makes sense to match it with a fox from the Foxes set. I stamped up the wooden stump and one of the foxes in Memento Desert Sand ink on Neenah paper and coloured them with my Copics. I used this beige-ish ink as I didn’t want the harsh lines from black ink. It’s not exactly no-line-colouring but gives a much softer look. Once all coloured, I fussy cut them out and added 3MM Googly Eyes to the fox for a fun element.

On an A2/4.24″x5.5″ water colour card stock I stamped some tree trunks in VersaMark ink and heatembossed them in white embossing powder. Always use an anti-static tool all over your panel before adding embossing powder.

To add some colour I used distress inks in blue and green to make a hill and sky for the background. I splattered a bit of water on it after I was done blending the colours as I love that dotted look. To clean up the embossed bits I used a Q-tip dipped in water and simply wiped off the ink from where I didn’t want it.

The sentiments I chose, ‘Wish you were here’ and ‘I miss you!’, I stamped on a speech bubble I cut out using the Stitched Duo Speech Bubble die. The wooden stump, the fox and the speech bubble were all adhered using foam tape.

I could have stopped there but you know… I’m not so good at the CAS look so I grabbed my enamel accents in white and green. The green got dotted around the tree stump to add some details to the grassy area and with the white, I tried making some cloud shapes but I had no idea at the time if this would work out or not. The picture below is from when the accents were still wet and it looked promising.

Here is the full card, although bear in mind that this picture is taken while the enamel accents were still wet as I might have been a bit on the impatient side… it’s past my bedtime at the time of writing this and without my sleep, I’m a very cranky girl and nobody likes a cranky girl! Let’s be honest, eh? ?

Here is to a healthy, as happy as possible and very crafty 2017!

Fist bumps for good luck from Erica

Merry Christmas Watercolor Card

November 22, 2016 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Other, Winter Holidays

Hello everyone!! Laurie here back to share a Christmas card with one of my favorite stamp sets!!  Its called Origami Winter and it’s just fabulous!!

laurie2b

I started by heat embossing the tree, the present and the star in white embossing powder on some watercolour cardstock.  If you look closely, I stamped a couple of stockings as well but messed up and overlapped them.  It’s ok, i ended up cutting that side off :).

My watercoloring medium of choice lately has been the Stabilo 68 markers.  I have the set of 30 but really want them all!!  I find these pens/markers so easy to work with and the colors are super vibrant!!!
I coloured my images in with traditional Christmas colours: red, green and a touch of gold and did a light wash of blue behind.  I trimmed the panel down to approximately 3.5 X 5.5.
laurie2
You can see here that I have everything adhered. I used some gold glitter tape directly on the card base and used some sequins from the Classic Christmas Sequins Fusion mix.  What you don’t see here is the sentiment.  I ALWAYS do this to myself!!!  But I wasn’t going to give up!!  I placed my card into my Mini Misti and chose a sentiment, which is also from the Origami Winter set.
Now because the background was watercolored AND heat embossed, I knew that the sentiment was likely not going to stamp perfectly, and I was right.  I used Versafine Black Onyx ink and there is one tiny place that the sentiment overlapped some of the white embossing and didn’t stamp.  I could have stamped it on a tiny strip and just adhered it over but I really didn’t want any distractions from the background.  In the end, I LOVE IT!!!!  And I hope you do too!! 🙂

Thank you so much for stopping by today!!
