Quick tips for the one layer card

September 8, 2020 / CATEGORIES - Other

Hello everyone! It’s Galina.

Today I’m going to use two my favorite techniques at one time to create a super quick and pretty thank you card.

How I made this card you can watch here or on Studio Katia Youtube channel

At first I cut out the white panel using the biggest dir from DOTTED PATTERNS SET 3 . Also, on this card I used a beautiful stamp set – A CUP OF THANKS. I masked it and applied green ink through the SQUARE BRICK STENCIL.

I colored the stamped images with Copic markers, to color the cuo I used W000, W01, W03; red flowers R12, R00, YR65; leaves G20, G21.

To embelish the card I add a few white mat crystals between the flowers.

Thanks for stopping by.

No-Coloring Halloween Card with Laura

August 27, 2020 / CATEGORIES - Other

Hi everyone! It’s Laura here, and today I am back with a fun Halloween slimline card that does not require any coloring! As always, there is a video tutorial that shows the entire card making process – you will find it at the end of this post.

This card was inspired by the one in the picture above. I made this cute last week, during my weekly live stream on the Studio Katia page – you can watch the replay here and find the supplies for the card here. You can also join me every Thursday, including today, at 2 PM ET, if you enjoy crafty lives! There is also a 15$GC that is given away each week – one more reason to watch! 😉

Back to today’s card, I decided to use the Shaker Pumpkin Die for my focal point and the Dotted Slimline Set 2 for my card base. I die cut all the elements out of colored cardstock and added some shading with Distress Inks!

I used Wilted Violet and Black Soot on the purple panel, where I also used the Spider Web stencil. For the green panel I used Lucky Clover, Pine Needles and Black Soot Distress Inks.

I added some droplets for an additional fun effect and I stamped images from the Meowy Halloween stamp set on the green panel. This way I created a custom patterned paper effect, which adds even more interest to the project. The sentiment, from the same set, was heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

For the pumpkin, I started from some orange cardstock, that I shaded with Ripe Persimmon and Black Soot Distress Inks. I cut the leaf and the stem out of some green cardstock and blended Lucky Clover and Black Soot Distress Inks on top.

I also created spiderwebs out of dark grey cardstock. I used the Spider Web Shaker die, Distress Ink in Black Soot and FSJ Ink in Whip Cream.

I then coated some elements of the card with a glitter brush pen and finished everything off with some Seafoam, Amethyst and Onyx Black Pearls.

And that’s my card for today! Don’t forget to watch the video below for a step by step tutorial and make sure to subscribe to the Studio Katia channel for more inspiration!

Thank you all for stopping by and have a great day!

Slimline card with a colorful background. Video

August 25, 2020 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Other

Hello every one! It’s Galina with you. I have another slimline card design to share with you as well as a few ink background techniques.

How I made this card you can watch here or on Studio Katia Youtube chanel.

I start by cutting out a card panel in a size of my slimline oval die, the large rectangle dies is about 3.25 inches x 8.25 inches
– oval die feature inside and outside dotted pattern with thin outline.

I applied few different distress ink on it as well as white pigment ink through the Sun Rays Stencil.

I stamped a few cute houses on a white paper as well as some clouds and trees, I used only 3 houses from the WHIMSICAL TOWN stapm set. I colored them with my alcohol markers.

From a light pink cardstock I’m going to cut out a rectangle panel with an oval window in the center. Also I prepared a white card base. I cut out it in a form of the card panel with out a two angles.

As for sentiment I picked two stems from another stamp set and combine the into nice phrase. I heat emboss the sentiment on the gray cardstock with white embossing powder.

To embellish my card I picked some crystal and flower sequins. I add a 3 flower sequins on the bottom and I get a nice garden near my houses, Also I mixed a green, blue and pink crystals and used them all on my card. Using tiny irredentist bubbles I add an extra shine on the flowers.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Floral Thank You Card with Laura

August 6, 2020 / CATEGORIES - Other

Hi everyone! It’s Laura here and today I am back with a floral thank you card featuring the Floral Wreath stamp set. There is also a video at the end of this post, in case you are interested in a step by step tutorial.

The image I used today is part of the Floral Wreath stamp set. I stamped it with a light ink and colored it with Illustrator markers. I used IB3, IB1 for the petals, BP1 and BP3 for the centers of the flowers, and GT1 and GT3 for the leaves.

After I was done coloring, I heat embossed the image with Rose Glitz embossing powder.

I then die cut a circle out of white cardstock. I used one of the dies in the Dotted Patterns Set 1 and heat embossed the sentiment again with Rose Glitz embossing powder.

Next, I die cut my card base with the Rectangular Dots Cover die  and sprinkled it with some Spectrum Noir Sparkle in the color Champagne. I glued the images and the sentiment to the base and finished everything off with some Rose Gold confetti.

If you are interested in the step-by-step process, here is the video for you guys. I hope you like it!

Thank you all for stopping by and have a great day!

How to Easily Fix the Challenges of Slimline cards by Tracey

August 4, 2020 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Other

Slimline cards are such a popular trend right now, but along with anything new or different come challenges. Today I am sharing a slimline card tutorial and video that is coming later. I am tackling some of the challenges that I have found with these fun and trendy designs. So my post today is a little bit different. I am going to discuss the challenges I have found and offer some solutions as I create today`s card. I used Studio Katia Dotted Slimline Set 1.

CHALLENGE 1: Die doesn’t Fit on Platform
The 8 1.2” or lower slimline dies should fit onto a standard sized cutting mat for either a Gemini Jr. or Big Shot die cut machine.
FIX: You just have to be careful with lining up the die and paper because the fit is very close. Both standard platforms for the Gemini Jr. and Big Shot will cut a 8 ½” long die.

CHALLENGE 2: Paper Warping
My paper seems to warp when I run slimline dies through my electronic die cutting machine. Not a problem because they can still be glued flat but for me little things like that drive me crazy.
FIX: Cutting with my manual die cut machine provided a clean cut without any warping.

CHALLENGE 3: Slimline Dies Use Too Much Paper
Slimlines are fun, but I do find I go through a lot more paper. You cannot cut more than one slimline card base from an 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of paper. So I looked for a way to maximize the paper when I’m making a slimline card.
FIX: You can cut a 8 ½” x 7” piece of cardstock for a card base and then the remaining paper can be trimmed down to a 8 ½” x 3 ½” rectangular panel that is the perfect fit for the slimline dies.

NOTE: I scored the card base on the short side at 3 ½”, folded the base and used a bone folder to crease the fold really well. I set it aside while I worked on the top panel.

CHALLENGE 4: Stamps Not Wide Enough
Most of my stamp sets are designed to fit on to a standard A2 sized card either horizontally or vertically.
FIX: For my card today I used the Artsy Trimmings stamp set to stamp all along the bottom of my panel with the rounded corners. I stamped the two separate stamps side by side so they look like one continuous row of crafty goodies! You can do this with pretty much all of your stamp sets, just fill in the space and have a bit of fun making a custom design.

CHALLENGE 5: Stamping a Customized Stamp with MISTI
Combining the two stamps together to create one continuous stamp in my MISTI just doesn’t work without resulting in an overhang.
FIX: I stamped the first stamp along the bottom left edge of the slimline die cut. I removed the stamp and lined up the second stamp coming in from the bottom right edge of the slimline die cut. I picked up the second stamp with my MISTI and then I used a piece of 2” Post-it tape to mask off the already stamped image so that I could easily ink up and stamp the second image and not spoil the image already stamped.

CHALLENGE 6: Slimline Die is Shaped
Today I used the Studio Katia Dotted Slimline Set 1 die set and I chose the die with the round diagonal corners which is really cool but makes it very difficult to create a card base the same size.
FIX: I cut my card base as a rectangle with four sharp corners. I dusted off my ‘Corner Chomper’ tool and used the ¼” corner rounder to chomp off the two diagonal corners–Perfect fit.

For the sentiment on my card I die cut the long banner from the Simple Trimmings die set. Then I cut the ‘Crafty’ die from the Artsy Trimmings die set from black cardstock, this is going to do in the centre of the banner. I then used the Trimmings Sayings stamp set to stamp sending to the left of the word crafty and hugs to the right of the word crafty to complete the custom sentiment ‘Sending Crafty Hugs’.

I covered the back of the banner with Studo Katia Double Sided White Foam Tape to give the white on white a bit of pop!

For a finishing touch I added some of the fabulous Studio Katia Pearls using the Studio Katia Embellishment Wand for a bit of fun! I used Studio Katia Moss Green Pearls, Studio Katia Ripe Persimmon Pearls, Studio Katia Stormcloud Pearls and Studio Katia Lemon Burst Pearls. Aren’t they pretty?

NOTE: Remember when adding embellishments that odd numbers usually work best!

I hope I was able to sort out a few of the technical challenges you might encounter with your slimline cardmaking and I hope you consider giving some of these tips a try!

Thanks for stopping by today and we’ll see you next time!

Birthday Plants

July 31, 2020 / CATEGORIES - Other

Hey lovelies, Tracy here with you today sharing a birthday card I created using the super cute Cactus Hugs stamp set.

IMG-5363-2

I started off by creating the background which I did by dabbing some ink onto a glass mat, spray with water and then using watercolour card I blotted the colour up until I was happy with the result and then left it to dry.

Whilst that was drying I stamped out these cuties and then used Spectrum Noir Aqua Markers to watercolour them and then left them to dry with the background.

I then die cut the plants out and added some white detailing.

For the background I used the Dotted Slimline Set 2 dies to die cut all the layers, which includes a piece of the gorgeous 6×6 Black, white & rainbow paper. I also added a thin strip of black card for detail. I used foam tape on the last layer and the plants for some dimension.

IMG-5362-2

This is where I messed up and had forgot to stamp sentiment so keeping everything crossed I stamped the sentiment and was very lucky it stamped fine…I have messed up cards before doing this so I don’t recommend it.

To finish the card off I added some of the Sky Blue Crystals.

IMG-5360-2

So happy how this turned out and I mean just look at those cute faces !

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you all have an amazing day.

Happy Crafting.

Birthday Slider Surprise Card

July 25, 2020 / CATEGORIES - Birthday Cards, Cards, New Release, Other

Hello Friends and Happy Friday, Ilda here!

I have been busy so making Birthday Cards lately. This week started the chain of birthdays happening now until the end of August. Today’s card was made for my little niece who celebrated her birthday this past week. I love making interactive cards, especially for children and this one was fun to make.

CARD DETAILS

To begin, I started off by stamping the MINI BIRTHDAY CAKE image and then coloring it with Copic Markers. I then used the MINI BIRTHDAY CAKE DIE to die cut the image.

birthday, interactive card, Slider, Studio Katia, Surprise, Birthday Cake, Balloons, distress oxide inks, Ink Blending, Card Making, Stamping, Die Cutting, handmade card, ilovedoingallthingscrafty, Stamps, how to,

Next, I die cut the pieces for the SLIDER TAG DIES. I then used the BIRTHDAY BALLOONS DUO STENCIL to blend out the balloons to the top and inside pieces using Distress Oxide Inks and the INK BLENDER BRUSHES. I did do my best to line up each layer of the slider tag to make the balloon images appear seamless. Before assembling the slider tag, I added the Happy Birthday sentiment from the HAPPY CELEBRATIONS to the inside of the tag so that when the slider piece is pulled it reveals the birthday sentiment.

birthday, interactive card, Slider, Studio Katia, Surprise, Birthday Cake, Balloons, distress oxide inks, Ink Blending, Card Making, Stamping, Die Cutting, handmade card, ilovedoingallthingscrafty, Stamps, how to,

I then glued the slider tag onto a card panel and stenciled on the other balloons. To the bottom half of the slider panel, I glued the Birthday Cake that I had previously colored.

To finish decorating the cake I used a glue pen to add liquid adhesive to the candles and then sprinkled them with SPARKLE GLITTER to make them sparkly. And then added glossy accents to the flames and the icing on the cake.

birthday, interactive card, Slider, Studio Katia, Surprise, Birthday Cake, Balloons, distress oxide inks, Ink Blending, Card Making, Stamping, Die Cutting, handmade card, ilovedoingallthingscrafty, Stamps, how to,

To embellish the rest of the card I added some 3M CRYSTAL RAINBOW SEQUINS and that pretty much finished off this card.

I hope this Birthday Slider Surprise Card inspired you today and maybe you’ll consider trying it out yourself the next time you want to add a little surprise element onto your card.

Thank you for stopping by and until next time… Happy Crafting!

Hugs, Ilda

Easy to Mail Shaker with Laura

July 24, 2020 / CATEGORIES - Floral Cards, Hello Cards, Other, Shaker Cards

Hi everyone! It’s Laura here and today I am back with an easy to mail slimline shaker card! Make sure to also check out the video at the end of the post for a step by step tutorial!

For the base of my card today I used the new Dotted Slimline Set 1 dies. I used them to cut both the base and the window of my shaker and I then ink blended the shaker background with Distress Oxides.

I used Speckled Egg, Milled Lavender and Dried Marigold and then spritzed everything with my Dylusions Shimmer Spray, for some extra sparkle. To create some dimension in my shaker, I die cut three sheets of heavyweight white cardstock to be the same as the shaker front. I layered them together and filled the shaker with a mix of chunky glitter and confetti.
Layering cardstock rather than using foam tape will keep the shaker a bit flatter, so that it is easier to mail.

For my images today I used the Aloha stamp set, that I colored with Illustrator Makers. Here is a list of markers I used:

Hibiscus: GY2, BO1, OR1, OR3, DR4

Leaves 1: JG7, JG4, JG2, JG1

Leaves 2: JG7, AG4, AG3, AG1

Leaves 3: LG5, LG3, LG1

Once I was done coloring, I die cut everything with the Aloha Coordinating Dies.

For the sentiment I used the Trimmings Sayings stamp set and the Simple Trimmings Dies, and I finished off the card with some Neon Tangerine Crystals.

Here is also a video tutorial for you, sharing the step by step process for this Slimline Shaker Card!

Thank you all so much for stopping by and have a great day!
