May Release Design Team Blog Hop

May 27, 2017 / CATEGORIES - Blog Hops, New Release

Hello and welcome to our May Release Design Team Blog Hop. This release includes 5 new clear stamp sets, 2 new stand along die sets and introducing new coordinating die sets. Yay!

Erica here and for today’s card I decided to use the You’re So Ranunculus stamp set and the Matching die (you can also buy these in a stamp and die bundle) No surprise about using the flower stamp I’m guessing, considering what a flower lover I am.

I dusted my Strathmore Bristol Vellum water colour paper generously with my anti-static tool before stamping it with VersaMark ink and heat embossing it in white embossing powder. Once all set, I grabbed my Zig markers and coloured it in vivid colours. Instead of sticking to just one colour, I used pinks and yellows to create a very colourful bunch of flowers and different shades of green for the leaves and stems.
When I was happy with the flower colouring, I set the piece aside to dry and started on my background panel. For this one I used RangerInk water colour card stock as I wanted a crisp white border around my colouring. To create this I used masking tape and covered about .5cm of the card stock on each side when I taped it down to my old Sizzix cover plate (which I use as a portable easel for stability whilst painting) Grabbing my Gansai Tambi 36 pack and splish-splashed some of those gorgeous, creamy colours around.
Here I had a brilliant idea and decided to do something which I thought would make the flowers stand out a bit more than my original idea which was to do green for thudded e bottom and blue for a sky. Instead I used greens for the bottom where grass and bushes would be (admittedly part of the original plan but work with me) and then to contrast the flowers I used yellow and dark pink on the opposite spot on the background to where the flowers were. If that makes sense? If not, don’t worry, I barely understood that part myself when I read it back and I wrote it…! To help with this I die cut the flowers out using the matching die and then used it as a guide as to where to add which colour. I used my heat tool to set the colours once I was done and then gently peeled off the masking tape. I must admit I LOVE that little white border around the background colours, it really helps making it pop and adds interest without actually doing anything. Clever, huh??
As for sentiments I decided to go for one of the ones that comes with the flower stamp set ‘You’re so Kind’ and I heat embossed this in a gold embossing powder on a strip of vellum. It was a bit tricky to wrap this around the flower die cut and keep it straight, which in the end I didn’t manage at all. Oh well, onwards and upwards, eh? My trusted must-have foam tape came out and I added a generous amount to the back of the cut out before adhering it to the background (I had already adhered the background to a white card base at this point)
To cover up the wonky vellum bit I added some sequins to it in the hopes the bling would make up for the wonky-ness. These are from Majestic Sequin Fusion and are so versatile as you get both flat and cupped in the mix. I used only cupped for this card though, I tend to use the flat ones for shaker cards mostly.
Well, that was it for this card. Now for the fun part!

Love the colors you used ranuculas are one of my favorite flowers too. You could just cut the vellum into a strip and adheres it on top of the flowers. You probably thought of that later anyway. Hehe

I look forward to even MORE FLOWERS with Studio Katia now! 😉 I LOOOOVE the water coloring you did & YES, I UNDERSTOOD what you were saying. LOL (I sometimes say things & wonder if I got my point across too. 😉 ) I LOVE the part of this stamp & die set where the vine is free from the flowers & there is that white spot….. Now, am I making sense? LOL The flowers are GORGEOUS in this set & you BEAUTIFULLY water colored them!!!! I THOUGHT when I first saw them, that they were cabbage roses. JUST GORGEOUS, either way!!! 😉 sigh!
