Be Merry| Foiling with stencils

November 14, 2018 / CATEGORIES - Other

Hey lovelies, Tracy here with you today sharing a slightly different holiday card.

I always think stencils are over looked, they are a great thing to have in your crafting kit as you can do so much with them.

One of my favourite things to do with stencils is foiling, it gives so much impact and is easy to do, you don’t need a laser printer just some Foil Transfer Gel (I use Deco Foil by Thermo web) and a laminator and you can create gorgeous foiling like this….

I have used Brush Stroke Waves Stencil , which yes was a “summer” stencil, but again stencils are so versatile.

All you need to do is apply a nice even layer of the gel through your stencil…you have to wash your stencil etc immediately. Then leave to dry (the gel goes clear when dry). I always wait at least 12 hours, but honestly it tends to be dry within 2 hours.

Once dry you then lay your desired foil over the top of the gel with the shiny side facing up, If you need to use a carrier sheet with your laminator (I just fold a piece of copy paper in half) then do so and run through your laminator.

Leave the foil to cool before you remove it, and you are done ! This is a technique you can easily do in bulk too.

To finish my card off I stamped the Be Merry Sentiment from the Merry Poinsettia Stamp set and heat embossed it in gold onto some vellum.

To match the wavy lines I tore along the top edge of the vellum before adhering to the card. I then added foam tape and adhered to a top folding A2 card base.

I hope this has inspired you to give foiling with your stencils a try, be warned though it is addictive !

Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you have a great day.

Happy Crafting.

Thanks Tracy, I look now on a very different way to my stencils. I would never thought of using them in this way. Your card looks great with thos gold strips and the piece of vellum is just the awesome finishing touch.

I just did this technique for a tag & loved the result! Great minds think alike–haha! Now I want to try a stencil with bigger areas to foil, like you did! Thanks for the inspiration, Tracey!
