Sneak Peek: Day 5

September 24, 2016 / CATEGORIES - Cards, New Release

It’s Day 5, of Sneak Peek and Erica is here with a fabulous Christmas Card using  New Clear Stamps that are coming out on September 27.

Who doesn’t love stretching their stamps? I sure do and I know I’m repeating myself but it’s so much fun! Today’s card does just that so I’m going to get to it rather than doing my parrot impression, lol!

I really like the look of loose water colouring but I’m not overly confident with that technique, I have had a whale of a time playing around with the Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi 36 pack water colours I borrowed from my friend though, admittedly with various results (I now definitely need these) As I’m trying to widen my crafty horizons, I decided I was going to do it for this card. An idea had been swimming around in my head and it was time to test it out.

The first stamp set I used was Happy Snowflakes from the new release. I selected one of the snowflakes and got to work. My trusted Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle die cut a nice piece of water colour paper and I dusted it generously with my anti-static powder tool. Using the snowflake, I stamped it first once, then directly under it, two more times and finally, a third row with three snowflakes to create a tree-shape. As I was using white image002embossing powder on white card stock, I wasn’t sure exactly how well I had managed to line them up but it actually turned out pretty great!

Green was the obvious choice of colour and I swished it around the stamped images, cleaning off the heat embossed edges of the snowflakes with a bit of water. The colouring was over in a flash and then it was a case of waiting to see what it would look like dry. I was really pleased with how it turned out and resisted the temptation to add more colour. I did splatter some more green all over the panel though, it was just too white without it.

To create a “foot” for the Christmas tree I used the stocking from the Origami-Winter set and some clever masking. Unfortunately I hadn’t thought of this while I was splattering the green around so there was a big blob of green right in the middle of where the foot had to go. I tried covering it up by using a very deep red but it still shows. Lesson learned for next time!image005

For decorations I used the star, also from Origami-Winter, I heat embossed that too and coloured it in with gold. For baubles, I used some Honey Gold Sequins and placed them really quite neatly to counter-balance the messiness of the colouring.

Apart from the drying of the water colouring, this was a quick card. I didn’t add a sentiment on this one but if I make more of this design, I think I will add the ‘Merry Christmas’ from Origami-Winter. I love that swirly font!

That’s it from me, thanks for stopping by!
Erica

Sneak Peek: Day 3

September 22, 2016 / CATEGORIES - Cards, New Release

Hi everyone, it’s Day 3 of New Release Sneak Peek.

Svitlana is here today I want to share a card, made using some supplies you can find in store now and some will be released the next week.

I made a fall and fruitful card, using Stitched Creative Window die and new Teacher’s Apple stamp set. The idea was to picture some kind of storage of apple harvest. The shape of this die remind me shelving unit ?svitlana-shayevich-studio-katia-thanks-01

First on three pieces of white cardstock I traced the die-cut inside parts to know the borders I needed to keep my stamping in. I could just die-cut them and use for stamping. But these die-cuts have stitching and I wanted all stamping and inking to happen before, or kind of under this stitching.

Handfuls of apples were stamped on these pieces, I used masking paper to mask off those positioned in front.

Then they were colored by inking with Scattered Straw and Ripe Persimmon Distress inks. I made a negative masks from masking paper, was applying negative mask (and positive where needed) and inked apples. I like the perfect blending I got using this method. It’s much harder to get the same results using markers or some other coloring method. Unless you’re an expert in it.

After I had all my apples colored – I masked them off and inked the background using Tumbled Glass and Broken China Distress Inks. And then I cut out my “shelving unit” insides with Stitched Creative Window die.

The outer part of it first was cut out of Kraft cardstock. Next I stamped a woodgrain pattern with Hero Arts Design Woodgrain rubber background stamp using SSS Dark Chocolate ink.

And inked over using Ground Espresso Distress ink the same ink with an ink applicator.

When all distress coloring was finished I sprayed these pieces with water, using Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer. Distresses reacted with water, adding some texture and interest to otherwise flat background.

Then I started assembling the shaker.

First the dimensional part was die-cut using the same die out of brown sticky back foam. This foam has adhesive on one side and I needed both sides to be sticky. So I applied Stick-It piece onto another side before die-cutting. Stick-It is very thin adhesive. It almost doesn’t add any bulk and it’s safe to use it with die-cutting machine. I adhered the foam die-cut to an A2 top folded card I cut and scored using Neenah Solar White cardstock. Next I inserted inside pieces it their corresponding negative spaces.  Added sequins from Autumn mix and some Gold Foil Seed Beads.

svitlana-shayevich-studio-katia-thanks-02

After that I cut out a plastic piece using my scissors and adhered it to the foam die-cut, followed by adhering the top die-cut (with woodgrain design) on the plastic using Ranger Glossy Accents glue.

I cut out a banner using Wplus9  banner die, inked it with Tumbled Glass Distress and stamped the sentiment from  to be released Duo Talk stamp set. Then this sentiment was adhered onto the shaker, one part of t I adhered flat on the die-cut using Tombo Mono Glue, and part – on the plastic, using a glue dot (I needed some dimension for this part and didn’t want it to be visible, so used a thick glue dot here).
To finish off my card I added some sequins from the same mix and sprinkled with Tarnished Brass Distress Spray.

So here you have it – an apple harvest storage unit ? Hope you like my card and have a great day!

New Release Sneak Peek: Day 1

September 20, 2016 / CATEGORIES - Cards, New Release, News

Hi everyone, today is the day that we start the countdown to September Release.

I have made two cards featuring the New Dotted Shaker Creative Die and New Clear Stamps.

I cut out the large window using Creative Rectangle Die, I cut out a wider window by simply moving the die first to one side and then to another.

hellofriendcard

I decided to use a vellum paper for more ‘drama’ and filled up the shaker with Gold Foil Sequins and the New Crystal Clear Sequins.

I wanted to make the pumpkin alive, I placed in to wobble. I used gold embossing powder on candy corns, tinsel on pumpkin and used a black embossing powder on the background.

I had to use a little bit of Wink Of Stella Glitter pen on all candy corns and pumpkin.

Pumpkin is by Your Next Stamp.

Hello! Anna is here today as a guest designer.  It’s September already but I still think about the summer and the sea! And I created this fun and cute shaker card with the playful whales!

img_2270

I used Stitched Creative Window die to create the shaker — every part of it is separated. I blended the background with Distress inks and filled with the next sequins:

Happy Birthday Card

September 13, 2016 / CATEGORIES - Birthday Cards, Cards

Hi all, today I’m sharing this simple yet classy Birthday Card. I just love black and gold cards, don’t you?

card3

I used Largest Stitched Rectangle Die to cut out the base, I stamped the Beautiful Bouquet  (I love this set) with Versamark Ink to create a simple pattern.

card1

Next I stamped the bouquet image onto black cardstock and used gold embossing powder. I used the largest Stitched Nested Creative Square from the set to cut out the bouquet.

card2

To complete the card I used Happy Birthday to You Sentiment from Numbered Balloons Set on vellum paper and used a Tinsel Gold Embossing Powder this time. I didn’t have any plain vellum paper, this one has a some confetti and i think it worked out well. I used 3D Foam Squares in Black to put everything together a few Gold Foil Sequins to finish it off.
