Celebrating You with Tracey

May 6, 2020 / CATEGORIES - Birthday Cards, Cards

Hi there it’s Tracey back again today with a card and video using the Birthday Balloon Duo Stencil and a sentiment from the Studio Katia It’s Your Birthday stamp set!

Whenever I create a design where I am stenciling layers or only stenciling individual images I find it easier to create a mockup sketch so that I know which images I am using and to help me determine the order of my layers. Today I am using the Birthday Balloon Duo Stencil set which is two separate dies that work together. I marked my stencils as #1 and #2 with a black sharpie for easy identification. I will be using only four different balloon shapes, 2 each from each stencil. Using a piece of copy paper I trace the inside of my balloons where I want to put them on my card from and write the number of the stencil inside the balloon.

I chose four colours of Distress Oxide inks to use for my balloons–Candied Apple, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade and Twisted Citron. I taped my panel to my media mat with purple tape and then using Post-it tape to tape my stencil down before blending. I am running low on Post-it tape and of course I ran out of my pink tape when I cut the first piece. I am also almost out of my green tape too, but I will need to wait until things start opening back up again before I can get some more. So I taped the stencil down and then used Post-it notes to cover over the parts of the stencil that I didn’t want to accidentally ink blend over.

I began to blend the images starting with the balloons that were to appear at the back and moving forward one balloon at a time moving the Post-it notes around to cover the openings where I didn’t want ink.

Once the ink blending was done I tapped some clean water over the balloons and used a paper towel to remove some of the ink to add some interest. The strings on the balloons were hand drawn with a fine tipped black pen. In the end I was happier with the pencil strings I sketched onto my mockup panel, isn’t that always the way?

The sentiment is from the Studio Katia It’s Your Birthday stamp set which I white embossed on to black cardstock. I taped my panel to a white card base and added the sentiment near the bottom.

To finish the card off with a bit of sparkle I tucked a few Carmine Red Crystals and Peridot Crystals around the balloons with Studio Katia glue and the card is done. Just in time for my hubby’s birthday which is this week!

Thank you so much for joining me today. I hope you are staying well and hoping that this will all be over soon. Have a good day!
