Double Masked Backgrounds

May 6, 2019 / CATEGORIES - Birthday Cards

Hi there! Emily Midgett here with you today sharing a project with not one, but two layers of masking on the background! I can always use masculine or gender neutral birthday cards for those little boy birthday parties, so I thought I’d pair the adorable Kobi Bearing Gifts with some fun stenciling and masking to create a birthday card perfect for a little guy! Let’s get started with the details.

I began by masking around the edges of a white A2 panel of card stock using painter’s tape. I then used blending brushes and coral and pale blue inks to do a bit of blending at the top and bottom. While the masks were still in place along the edges of the card base, I adhered the Confetti Stencil and added some silver glitter paste, keeping the confetti concentrated at the top of the blended area and fading out towards the bottom. I removed the stencil and the mask to reveal a bright white frame around my masked and stenciled area!! Masking is like magic to me. I love that final reveal!

While the stenciled panel was drying, I stamped Kobi Bearing Gifts, a balloon, and an extra gift onto some white card stock, then colored him with my Copic markers in shades of coral, aqua, blue, and peach. (A lovely, neutral color scheme, no?) I used the coordinating dies to cut everything out.

I stamped “Hooray” three times on some strips of white card stock, then adhered the die cuts and sentiment strips to the stenciled card front using foam adhesive.

Well, that’s all for my project today! I hope you’ll try some double masking on your own projects… so much fun to watch that final reveal of the mask being pulled away. Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a marvelous Monday!
