Hello!!
Erica here with my blog post to go with the card I made as part of the 1st Birthday Celebration blog hop for Studio Katia! (You might have seen my card already if you took part in the hop on May 4th but here is the whole shebang in words too.)
As soon as I heard that the prompt for this blog hop was shaker cards I decided to do a see-through vase and fill it with blue and transparent sequins and shaker beads. Adding lots of flowers for the vase was just a bonus. I have done a card in the past when the vase was propped up on the front of the card but for this one I decided to do a flat front and cut the shaker compartment into the back, if that makes sense? I’m reading this back and it just seems like a mad riddle to be honest.. Hopefully the photos will explain better than my words do!
I started out by cutting out a tall and thin card base, 7″ x 4″, in a fabulous linen textured white card stock. In this panel I cut out the smallest of the Stitched Creative Nested Rectangles towards the bottom, leaving enough room to add enough adheisive to make sure no sequins escape the shaker compartment. Using this as a guide I cut out 4 panels in the same size and die cut the ‘vase’ on each one. These I layered up using LOTS of double sided tape and for the top layer I added a piece of acetate to the front panel. This whole lot I set aside for a minute as I wanted to stamp some flower stems on the negative cut (in the white linen textured card stock) before adding this to the back of the shaker compartment. Using the skinniest Brush Strokes stamp I stamped several stems using a green ink. Then to add a little bit extra I stamped some skinnier stems, from a stamp set from The Ton, using a darker ink.
Turning my card panel upside down, I filled the shaker compartment with Clear Iridescent Seed Beads, Icy Breeze Sequins in 4mm size and also some metallic blue 4mm sequins which sadly aren’t available any more so you could use Enchanted Sea Sequins or Light Blue Metallic Star Sequins for a jazzy look. The ‘inside of the vase’-bit I gently added as a lid and then I adhered the final piece of card stock to keep it all together.
Moving on to my flowers I reached for the big bloom in the Thank You So Much set and I stamped up two on Strathmore Bristol Vellum water colour paper and heatembossed them in white embossing powder. Using my Zig markers, I coloured them in rich reds with hints of pink. As usual the florist in me thought ‘this bunch needs greenery and some smaller flowers too’ so I stamped up another flower from the Together We Bloom as well as the biggest leaves. This I stamped two together to make a slightly bigger bunch of leaves. All this also got coloured in using Zig markers. Everything then got fussy cut.
Arranging these into a nice, big bunch I adhered them to the card using foam tape to add some extra dimension. As this is for a birthday it needed a sentiment and to keep things simple, as the rest of the card has a lot going on, I just stamped ‘Happy Birthday’ from the Birthday Lions  in black on a piece of white card stock and cut it down quite small. This I also adhered with foam tape on the top flower and with that, the card was done!
I hope you have enjoyed this post and will enjoy the rest of the hop! There are always some absolutely amazing and breathtaking projects from the rest of the DT and the guest designers, you aren’t going to want to miss it! It also wouldn’t be a Birthday Celebration without a giveaway and some fabulous prizes, right?
