Boo!! Erica on the blog today with a couple of spooktacular shaker cards.
There is a fabulous sequin fusion mix in the Studio Katia shop called Witches Cauldron Fusion and I knew I had to use it for something as soon as I saw it. These two cards both have these sequins in the shaker parts.
I started by cutting out two pieces each with the Femme Frames from Mama Elephant, in black and purple, each size in opposite colours. Taking the Stitched Loops creative die I used the same black and purple card stock and cut out six pieces in each colour as well as one in water colour paper. For this piece I used distress inks and blended two purple colours on it as well as splattered a bit of water for that lovely dotted look.
The rest of the shapes, bar one each, I glued together and set aside. The last one I used as a guide and stamped with some sentiments from the Spooky Duo Talk stamp set around it in VersaMark ink and then added clear embossing powder which I set using a heat gun. Even on dark card stock I use my anti-static powder tool to avoid random bits of embossing powder going where I don’t want it to go. This you can wipe off once you have heated up the embossing powder.
Turning the smaller panel upside down, I added lots of foam tape to the back and adhered it to the bigger piece. Once stable, I added the glued together pieces to the front. This will create a pocket/compartment where your sequins will go. Making a shaker card this way is a great way to avoid wonky parts.
Using the negative cut on the card stock from where I cut out the Stitched Loops Die, I traced the shape on acetate and cut that out using scissors. This piece I glued to the last shape left, this part will be the ‘roof’ of the shaker compartment. After adding a good sprinkle of sequins to each compartment, I glued on the top part.
To make it even spookier, I also added six pairs of 4mm Googly Eyes all over the cards.
Finally, the finished panels were added to card bases. I used black card stock for the bases and cut out a white piece of card stock to go inside so you can write a message.
I hope these cards have inspired you to get some Halloween crafting done. Have a spooktacular Halloween and don’t eat too many sweets!
Trick or treat!
Erica
