Hello, friends! Rubeena here from A Rare Ruby. This week’s theme is red, white, and blue, which inspired me to use non-traditional colors for a floral set. Lovely Blooms is one of my favorite sets from the last release so I decided to use it for my project today.
I started by stamping the image with my stamping tool and a Copic-friendly black dye ink. I colored the blooms in shades of red and gray (for the “white” aspect of the theme) and the leaves in shades of blue.
Usually, I add details with a white gel pen, but I colored in a way to leave some negative space for highlights. I love the look, and I just love experimenting with my coloring style. I fussy cut the image and set it aside so I could work on my background.
For the background, I used Yupo paper and blue alcohol inks (Copic markers/refills) to create a messy and dreamy blue look. I love how it turned out. It was completely accidental. Needless to say, my hands were really inky!
I used a sentiment from Birthday Greetings, stamped with clear embossing ink and heat-embossed in white. I trimmed it down and added it vertically to the left of my card. I arranged the blooms on the top right with foam tape. To finish off this dreamy look, I added Iridescent Crystals. This theme challenged me to try different colors for my florals, and I absolutely love how it turned out. What are some of your favorite go-to colors when creating?
Thanks so much for stopping by!
