Hello, friends! Rubeena here from A Rare Ruby. I hope your summer is going well! Today, I have a gorgeous floral card for you using three different sets. I apologize for the lighting in my photos. We’ve had quite a bit of gloomy, rainy days in the past few weeks.
I love making long cards. They allow more space for stamping and coloring (or any other techniques). For this card, I decided to use Spring Bouquet, Blooming Bunch, and Lovely Blooms on a 4.25″ x 8″ card. You can go the extra mile and do masking to have the floral clusters overlapping, but I simply stamped them close enough without needing to do extra work. I still love how they came out, leaving enough space in the center for a sentiment. I used watercolors in shades of pink, purple, coral, green, and yellow and colored directly on the card base. Any watercolors will do (or even alcohol markers).
To be honest, I stamped this on 110# regular cardstock. Since I used watercolors, I do not usually recommend this paper if you want to do blending. That is because the water will get absorbed almost immediately unlike on watercolor paper (100% cotton is the best to minimize warping). However, I actually do like the look of simple “watercoloring” on regular heavy cardstock. I use a size 0 or 2 brush so I am not holding a lot of water. I go back in a second or third time for bolder colors for shading. I am not going for realism but rather for fun.
I like the texture it created in the center when I was applying the light blue between the florals. If you prefer there be no warping, please use a blue painter’s tape or something with low-tack to hold down your project as you work around it. What I tend to do is slide it in a book and place the book under something heavy to flatten my card.
Finally, I stamped the sentiment from Together We Bloom. How gorgeous is that font?! I love when sentiments go with the design of the card and also suit the recipient of the card.
I hope this inspires you to go watercolor and stretch your creative muscle. More importantly, just have fun. 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Love the long card idea…have only done a few but, as you said, they give the extra room for working the details. Your watercoloring on this card is lovely. Thanks for the tips about using regular cardstock…thanks for sharing your lovely card!
OMG What a beautiful card. You could use this card for anything “Wedding, Anniversary, Sympathy, Birthday for just general.”
The long look is beautiful ans so are your colors. So very soft.
