Hey there, fellow crafters! Today, I’m thrilled to share a recent card-making adventure using a fascinating and versatile technique called “masking.” It’s a delightful process that allows you to create stunning designs by layering and blending inks, making your cards truly one-of-a-kind. So, let’s dive right into the magic of the masking technique!

How to make this card you can watch here or on Studio Katia Youtube channel
First things first, I took the masking tape and carefully cut out a beautiful flower shape using the coordinating die. The masking tape is an essential component as it temporarily covers and protects parts of the card while we work on other areas.
With the flower mask ready, I gently placed it on the white card panel. Now comes the fun part – ink blending! Starting with a light blue ink, I softly blended it onto the panel’s surface. The gradual transition from light to dark blue, and finally, adding a touch of black ink on the edges, created a mesmerizing sky backdrop for the floral display.

The moment of truth! With the background ink perfectly blended, it was time to remove the masking tape carefully. As I peeled off the tape, the masked area revealed untouched white spaces in the shape of a flower. The effect was already stunning!
Then I stamped sunflowes with black Memento ink and colored them with Copic Markers. I opted for warm yellows and rich browns, making the sunflowers look realistic and captivating.
No card is complete without a touch of elegance! I adorned the card with clear drops, which added a charming glimmer to the design. Additionally, I used a white gel pen to add small accents, enhancing the sunflowers and giving the card a personalized touch.
And there you have it – a stunning card crafted with the marvelous masking technique! The layering of ink, the unveiling of masked shapes, and the embellishments brought this creation to life. It’s amazing how a few simple steps can lead to such an eye-catching and personalized masterpiece.
The masking technique is a wonderful addition to any card maker’s arsenal, opening up a world of possibilities and creativity. So, I encourage you to give it a try and watch as your cards come to life with each stroke of ink and touch of color. Happy crafting!
Hugs,
Galina
