Winter Fun with the Ice Day Penguins by Ilda

October 24, 2018 / CATEGORIES - Cards, Shaker Cards, Winter Holidays

Hello my friends, Ilda here! I am back today on the Studio Katia Blog with a winter scene card featuring the cute penguins from Kobi’s Ice Day stamp set. It still is early for winter here in Canada but it has already snowed a few times here since September, but thankfully it has melted! Although as the cold weather approaches I begin looking forward to the fun winter activities ahead.

For this card, I was imagining these cute little penguins having fun on a winter day… walking across a frozen lake wing in wing… sliding across the ice on their bellies… I also thought it would be fun to make it look like it was snowing and so turned this scene into a shaker card.

To make this card I began by stamping out the images onto Bristol paper, colored them in with Zig markers and then die cut them with the coordinating dies. Next, I worked on the background by blending out Peacock Feathers, Broken China, and Mermaid Lagoon Oxide Inks onto the background. I then misted the background with water and picked it up with a paper towel leaving behind watermarks on the inked panel. The next thing I did was cut out the card front to create the windows for the shaker.  I used the large oblong window die from the Dotted Patterns Set 3 to cut out the two windows and then used the large rectangle die from the Dotted Patterns: Darling Ribbon Dies to cut out the entire panel. I then stamped out the winter fun stamp between the windows. I used the windows I had just cut out to figure out where to stamp the snowflakes onto the inked panel. Once the distress oxide ink was dry, I stamped out the snowflakes and heat set them with white embossing powder and began assembling the shaker card. The shaker mix consists of Silver Foil Stars and Sparkling Stars Confetti Glitter. Finally, I finished the card by gluing the penguins in place and adding some Iridescent Ice Flakes to the card front.

I hope this Winter Fun Card inspired you today!

Thank you for stopping by and until next time… Happy Crafting!

Ilda
