You’re So Wonderful with Rubeena

August 7, 2018 / CATEGORIES - Other

Hello, friends! Rubeena here from A Rare Ruby. There is no specific theme this month so I was delighted to use one of Studio Katia’s gorgeous floral stamps. Studio Katia carries some of my favorite bouquets that are perfect for practicing your coloring.

In the last few weeks, I have been setting up my watercolor palettes. For today’s card, I used my new Daniel Smith watercolors finally.

I started with watercolor cardstock and stamped Spring Bouquet with watercolor-friendly black dye ink in the bottom corners. I watercolored them with a round 2 brush and watercolors in shades of pink, coral, purple, and green (Quinacridone Coral, Quinacridone Rose, Rose of Ultramarine, Imperial Purple, Spring Green, and Deep Sap Green). I don’t consider myself a true watercolor artist since I tend to get messy with this medium. However, I have started to pick up a few tips here and there in my practice. I learned the phrase “underpainting” from a very good friend of mine. I lay a very light color on all of the images and then after each layer dries, I add slightly darker shades over it. It’s not entirely realistic but does give it some depth.

Recently, I invested in a glass media mat as well and it helps to keep my watercolors diluted on it (which I can then clean off with a wet wipe). I colored around the floral arrangements in a very light green. Once it dried, I stamped the sentiment “you’re so wonderful” from Blooming Bunch.

To finish it off, I die-cut the panel with the large dotted rectangle frame from Dotted Patterns: Darling Ribbon & Frames. I then adhered the panel to my white card base with double-sided adhesive. Simple but pretty. I stamped a lot of the Studio Katia flowers on watercolor cardstock and keep them in a bin so I can practice coloring over the next few weeks. I hope this inspires you to go watercolor!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

So pretty! Love the color combo! It’s also got a ton of pizzazz and still the ability to mail.
